SUMMER THEATRE WORKSHOP 2019
JULY 22-26, 2019

Neal Rantoul Black Box Theater, Lynn
with a Showcase of our prepared work on Friday July 26 at 12:15PM
About the program
Arts After Hours, Lynn's community theatre, is excited to expand our programming from successful mainstage productions for adults to youth outreach for Lynn students and youths from our surrounding communities. After a successful round of one-day workshops in Summer 2018, we are proudly offering a one-week half-day Summer Youth Theatre Intensive in July 2019 where youths ages 8-18 will come together to learn and grow as theatre artists, as well as create a stunning piece of theatre in our culminating Showcase.
The Summer 2019 Intensive will be entirely catered to the ages and experiences of the individual registrants. Guided by professional theatre educators Samantha Gambaccini and Brit Christopher, students will use playmaking to create a new work generated from creative writing, scenework, partner and group activities, and artistic exploration. Students will decide to pursue this week as an actor or a technical theatre designer/crew member, depending on their interests, with help and guidance from the directors. The theme will be loosely based on Secrets, tying in to the Season 9 mainstage productions. We welcome all interest students and teens, ages 8-18, of any skill or experience level to attend. We will help you gain confidence in yourself and your theatre skills while fostering a strong sense of community, team relationships, individuality, and both personal and collaborative artistry. All are welcome.
While our mainstage productions are still 18+, we hope that with the success of this program, our future Youth programming will include a Youth mainstage production with a cast and crew comprised of our students, overseen by our professional design and education teams. Thank you for support of Arts After Hours.

Carrie White is a misfit. At school, she's an outcast who's bullied by the popular crowd, and virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she's at the mercy of her loving but cruelly over-protective mother. But Carrie's just discovered she's got a special power, and if pushed too far, she's not afraid to use it…
Based on Stephen King's bestselling novel, the musical of Carrie hasn't been seen since its legendary 1988 Broadway production. Now, the show's original authors have joined with director Stafford Arima (Altar Boyz) and MCC Theater for a newly reworked and fully re-imagined vision of this gripping tale. Arts After Hours’ production will be set in the 1970s, in the small town of Chamberlain, Maine, Carrie features a book by Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the classic film), music by Academy Award winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), and lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose).
