ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE AUDITION

“None of the cast is actually six years old. And they don't really look like Charles Schulz' ‘Peanuts’ cartoon characters. But this doesn't seem to make that much difference once we are into the play, because what they are saying to each other is with the openness of that early childhood time, and the obvious fact is that they are all really quite fond of each other.” —Clark Gesner, composer “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”

For the purposes of this production we are looking for actors who can portray youthfulness, yet have a “lived in” quality which hints at who these children might grow into as adults.

CHARLIE BROWN (male, casting age 25-45, BARI-TENOR to F) is a lovable loser, a child possessed of endless determination and hope, but who is ultimately dominated by his insecurities and a "permanent case of bad luck," and is often taken advantage of by his peers.

SNOOPY (male or female, TENOR to high A or D, casting age 25-45) He is Charlie Brown's very human-like pet. In fact, he sometimes forgets he is a dog.  Schulz summed up Snoopy's character in a 1997 interview: "He has to retreat into his fanciful world in order to survive. Otherwise, he leads kind of a dull...life.”

LINUS (male, BARITONE to High E, casting age 25-45) is the younger brother of Lucy and the best friend of Charlie Brown.  Though young, he is unusually smart and a philosopher.

SHROEDER (TENOR to High A flat, casting age 35-45) is distinguished by his precocious skill at playing the toy piano, as well as by his love of classical music and the composer Ludwig van Beethoven in particular. He is also the object of the unrequited infatuation of Lucy.

LUCY (female, ALTO to F, casting age 25-45) is a fussbudget and the older sister of Linus. She is a crabby and cynical eight-year old girl, and often bullies her friends, particularly Linus and Charlie Brown.  She is infatuated with Schroeder.

SALLY BROWN (female, SOPRANO A flat, casting age 25-45) is the younger sister of Charlie Brown. She has a "take it easy" approach to life, although she can be stubborn at times.  She has a good heart and a strong moral sense; like her older brother she is extremely sensitive to the unfairness of life. Sally frequently develops “new Philosophies” on life and is in love with Linus.
